My journey with piano began at age 11 when I begged my parents for lessons. They were skeptical at first, as I had a history of starting and dropping hobbies. But piano was different—it was something I had dreamed of learning since childhood. I’d spend hours messing around on my grandparents’ out-of-tune piano, captivated by the instrument’s potential. The turning point came when I saw my friend play Fur Elise. I was mesmerized, and from that moment on, I knew I wanted to play piano.
After a year of lessons, my first teacher said I needed someone more advanced because I had surpassed her ability to teach me. From there, I trained with several teachers, focusing on classical music and later adding contemporary music along with jazz. My passion for piano was driven by hours of practice, not because anyone asked me to, but because I loved it.
During my time at Cornell University, where I studied Electrical and Computer Engineering, I continued my piano studies in the campus music rooms. I also began teaching through the Cornell Piano Society, and it was there I discovered how much I loved helping others develop a passion for music.
After graduation, I worked as a software engineer for six years, including competitive companies such as Amazon. Despite my career success, nothing brought me more joy than mastering a technically complex piece or composing my own songs. In 2021, I started streaming piano performances on Twitch, improvising and playing songs by ear suggested by live viewers.
In 2024, I decided to take a break from my tech career to focus on teaching piano full-time. Since then, I’ve worked with over 50 students and counting, ranging from beginners to advanced players, tailoring lessons to their unique interests and goals. Concurrently I only keep around 20 students so that they can have the highest level of quality of instruction and my full attention.
My Teaching Philosophy
My approach is student driven. I believe piano lessons should be fun, engaging, and personalized. Whether you’re mastering technique, learning to play by ear, or diving into your favorite songs, my goal is to help you achieve your musical dreams while building strong fundamentals and a deep understanding of music.
